The head of the Targeted Subsidies Organization: Subsidies for 18 million people will be cut
Hassan Norouzi, the head of the Targeted Subsidies Organization, announced on Tuesday, August 18, that by the end of this year, subsidies for the top three income brackets of society will be cut.
According to Norouzi, this list, prepared in collaboration with the Ministry of Welfare, includes 18 million people. He stated that this measure is being taken to facilitate the targeted redistribution of subsidies.
Based on the information Norouzi provided at the Subsidies Targeting and Welfare Puzzle meeting, in the year 2025, 21% of the government’s budget resources, equivalent to more than one million billion tomans (1046 trillion tomans), has been allocated to subsidies, of which 88 trillion tomans is allocated for medicine.
Norouzi also emphasized the need for gradual reform in the system of subsidy resources and expenditures, stating that only for gasoline, two million billion tomans (2000 trillion tomans) in subsidies are applied annually, yet this indirect payment is not felt in the lives of citizens.
