Holding of the Iran-UAE Joint Economic Commission after 10 years
The Iran-UAE Joint Economic Commission is meeting for the first time in 10 years
Iranian Labour News Agency (ILNA) reported that the joint economic commission of the United Arab Emirates and Iran will hold a meeting in Abu Dhabi from Tuesday to Wednesday, May 1st and 2nd
This meeting is being held under the chairmanship of Mehrdad Bazrpash, Iran’s Minister of Roads and Urban Development, and Abdullah bin Touq Al Marri, UAE’s Minister of Economy, as the Iranian and Emirati heads of this commission
The meeting is taking place as Tehran seeks to strengthen economic relations with Gulf countries amid increasing US pressure
Dubai has long been one of Iran’s main gateways to the outside world, but relations between Iran and the United Arab Emirates became strained in December 2015 after a group of supporters of the Islamic Republic attacked Saudi diplomatic sites in Tehran and Riyadh, and Abu Dhabi downgraded its diplomatic relations to the level of charge d’affaires at that time
Since 2019, the two countries have taken steps to reduce tensions, and in the following years, the United Arab Emirates returned its ambassador to Iran
