Holding of Ebrahim Raisi’s funeral and burial ceremony in Mashhad

The body of Ebrahim Raisi was transferred from Birjand to Mashhad for burial on the morning of Thursday, May 23rd. Raisi had been elected as a representative for the Assembly of Experts in Birjand.

Iranian state television and news agencies broadcast Raisi’s funeral live, speaking of a million-strong crowd and a torrent of people.

However, the media of the Islamic Republic did not hide that a large crowd was brought to Mashhad using government facilities and municipal services. The governor of Sabzevar said that just the convoy from this city had arrived in Mashhad with more than 40 buses, 400 private cars, and 40 vans. Convoys from Quchan, Chenaran, Golbahar, Binalud, Fariman, Neyshabur, Sabzevar, and Torbat Heydarieh were also dispatched to Mashhad.

The governor, the mayor, and the head of Mashhad, along with the military and security leaders, Alamolhoda, the Friday prayer leader of Mashhad, and Raisi’s family also came to the city’s airport.

Officials announced that Raisi’s funeral ceremony would start at 15 Khordad Square and from there be moved to the shrine of the Eighth Imam of the Shia.
