Hossein Ali Nayeri, one of the judges of the 1988 executions and a member of the death committee, has passed away

Hossein Ali Nayeri, one of the judges involved in the 1988 executions and a member of the Death Committee, has passed away.

Hossein Ali Nayeri, a member of the Tehran Province Death Committee, has died.

Gholamhossein Mohseni Ejei, the head of Iran’s judiciary, offered his condolences in a message regarding his death.

Hossein Ali Nayeri was a judicial official closely associated with Mohammad Mohammadi Gilani and Asadollah Lajevardi.

He was the religious judge of Evin Prison in the 1980s.

In 1988, Ayatollah Khomeini appointed him, along with Morteza Eshraghi and a representative from the Ministry of Intelligence, to decide on prisoners who insisted on their position of hypocrisy, were at war with God, and were sentenced to death.

Thus, Hossein Ali Nayeri is considered one of the individuals directly responsible for the mass execution of thousands of political prisoners.

In the winter of 1988, Ayatollah Khomeini also appointed him, along with Ebrahim Raisi, to address the backlog of cases in the Supreme Judicial Council.
