Houshang Golmakani's Account of His Last Conversation with Kiumars Pourahmad

Houshang Golmakani’s account of his last conversation with Kiumars Pourahmad

The night before last, he called and asked if I had seen the new English film ‘Living’.

I said yes, in fact, I watched it just last night.

He said Kurosawa’s version was even better, so why remake it?

I said I also really like Kurosawa’s ‘Ikiru’, but I didn’t dislike this new film either.

The next day, I watched Kurosawa’s ‘Ikiru’ again after many years, though I don’t know for the how many-eth time. I realized that the new English film isn’t bad, and I took some notes. Last night, I wanted to call Kiumars and talk to him about these two versions of ‘Living’.

I wanted to tell him that I wish I could go to sleep one night and not wake up in the morning. I didn’t know he was braver and had taken action himself, not waiting for fate like I did.
