Resolution of the IAEA Board of Governors: Iran must report the status of enriched uranium without delay
The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) passed a resolution on Thursday, November 19, obligating the Islamic Republic of Iran to report without delay on the current status of its enriched uranium and damaged nuclear facilities.
This decision, made by the 35 members of the Board of Governors, was supported by Western countries and aims to extend and amend the IAEA’s supervisory authority over Iran’s nuclear program.
Diplomats present at the meeting, in a statement seen by Reuters, said the resolution calls on Iran to provide full access to its nuclear facilities and detailed information about its enriched uranium inventory to the agency.
This decision was brought up following Israeli and American airstrikes on Iran’s nuclear facilities that took place in June.
The resolution emphasizes that Iran’s prompt cooperation with the agency is essential to ensure the peaceful nature of Iran’s nuclear program, yet it avoids including the phrase ‘direct violation’ in this report.
