Migration Statistics on the Prohibited List

A few days ago, news broke that the director of the Iranian Migration Observatory has been banned from giving interviews. This news was met with a reaction from the Vice Presidency for Science and Technology. Ruhollah Dehghani Firouzabadi announced in his press conference that the data provided by this observatory is not transparent and emphasized that this vice presidency insists on not giving incorrect information to the public.

Three years have passed since the publication of Iran’s Migration Yearbook, and during this time, the Iranian Migration Observatory has been the primary source of statistics related to the migration of Iranians. Each time this report is published, various media outlets have released the observatory’s statistics. These statistics have been consistently confirmed or cited by the Vice Presidency for Science and Technology, especially concerning the migration of elites and the return of Iranian specialists to the country. However, now Dehghani Firouzabadi has declared that the statistics from this institution are not transparent.
