Araqchi in 5 meetings with Trump’s representative had more progress than the entire negotiations with Biden
Abbas Araqchi, the Foreign Minister of the Islamic Republic, wrote in a note published in the Financial Times on Tuesday, July 7, that the Israeli military attack on Iran has destroyed the diplomatic path between Tehran and Washington.
He claimed that the Islamic Republic and the United States were only 48 hours away from reaching a historic agreement, an agreement that, according to him, could have simultaneously lifted sanctions and imposed restrictions on the Islamic Republic’s enrichment program.
In this note, Araqchi wrote that in five meetings with Steve Witkoff, the special representative of the Trump administration, more progress was made than during the entire period of negotiations under the Biden administration.
He said these meetings were accompanied by numerous exchanges of messages and the groundwork for reaching an agreement had been laid, but just 48 hours before the sixth meeting, the Israeli military attack on Iran caused a complete halt to the negotiation process.
