In the Abidar Sanandaj fire, 22 compatriots lost their lives

In the Abidar fire in Sanandaj, 22 of our fellow citizens lost their lives.

According to domestic media reports, the fire in the heights of Abidar Mountain in Sanandaj began on Thursday, July 24, 2025, and during the firefighting operation, two environmental activists, Hamid Moradi and Chiako Yosefinejad, lost their lives at the scene.

Khabat Amini, the third environmental activist, passed away on Saturday, July 26, after suffering severe burns and being transferred to Kosar Hospital, bringing the total number of victims of this devastating fire to 22.

The Governor of Kurdistan declared two days of public mourning.

Abidar Mountain, a valuable natural and recreational heritage of Kurdistan, has always been a refuge for environmental activists and the citizens of Sanandaj.

In recent weeks, the Sanandaj municipality fenced off part of the Kanisangeshkin slope, which led to the destruction of vegetation and pastures.

This action faced protests from civil and environmental activists, who demanded a halt to the illegal appropriation of natural resources.
