Increase in Air Pollution in 10 Major Cities of Iran
The Iran Meteorological Organization issued a warning on Monday, December 18, about the increase in air pollution in 10 major cities of the country, leading to the closure and remote learning of primary schools in Tehran for the second consecutive day.
The Meteorological Organization has forecasted and issued a yellow warning for reduced air quality from December 18 to December 22 in Tehran, Isfahan, Yazd, Arak, Karaj, Ahvaz, Semnan, Mashhad, Qazvin, and Karaj.
The cause of this situation is attributed to the persistence of stable weather conditions combined with increased concentration of atmospheric pollutants. The Meteorological Organization has stated that if fixed and mobile pollution sources are not controlled, the unhealthy conditions for sensitive groups will become unhealthy for all groups.
This organization has called for a reduction in non-essential travel and the control of industrial activities at pollution-emitting centers.
Following these warnings, the Emergency Air Pollution Task Force in the Tehran Governorate announced on Monday afternoon that kindergartens and primary schools in this province, except for Firuzkuh, will be closed on Tuesday, December 19, in both morning and afternoon sessions and will continue activities remotely.
