India announces the birth of four cheetah cubs
In an effort to reintroduce cheetahs to India, the country imported 8 cheetahs from Namibia last year and 12 cheetahs from South Africa last month.
The Madhya Pradesh Forest Department posted a video on its Twitter page stating that these four cubs were born to one of the cheetahs transferred from Namibia to India on September 17, 2022.
The Asiatic cheetah is critically endangered, with only a few living in Iran.
Pirouz, a cheetah cub that was kept in Pardisan Park in Tehran and symbolized the rescue of the endangered Asiatic Iranian cheetahs, died in early March.
In 1952, India declared the Asiatic cheetah extinct in the country. Seventy years after the extinction of the cheetah in India, the forests of this country have recently become a habitat for these spotted mammals once again.
Cheetahs from the African country of Namibia, which is considered one of the largest cheetah habitats, were transferred to India.
According to the latest reports, only seven thousand cheetahs remain in the wild worldwide.
