Initial Approval by Knesset for Netanyahu's Judicial Reform Bill

Initial approval of Netanyahu’s judicial reform bill by the Knesset

The Israeli government, composed of right-wing and religious extremist parties led by Benjamin Netanyahu, is striving to advance the judicial review plan with increased urgency despite widespread protests and numerous warnings. This plan weakens the independence of the judiciary and the separation of powers.

On the evening of Monday, March 13 (22nd of Esfand), the Israeli parliament, the Knesset, passed another part of this controversial plan.

This section includes a law that grants Benjamin Netanyahu immunity. He might be removed from his position as Prime Minister due to his trial related to financial corruption, a decision that must be made by the Israeli Supreme Court.

According to this law, now only the parliament has the authority to remove the Prime Minister from office, and that too only for mental or physical reasons. Under current laws, the Prime Minister can be removed for other reasons as well.
