Instagram is changing its algorithm for greater child safety
Meta, the owner of Instagram and Facebook, says it is altering its algorithms on these two social networks to better protect children and teenagers.
Meta has emphasized that these measures are part of ongoing efforts to protect young users and respond to criticisms about the impact of its platforms on the mental health and safety of children.
These measures include displaying more information, such as the account creation date, for accounts that communicate with teenagers in private direct messages, as well as the ability to block and report suspicious accounts with a single click.
Meta is also implementing strict messaging settings for accounts managed by adults that primarily post children’s content, preventing them from appearing to suspicious adults in searches and recommendations.
The Hidden Words tool has also been activated to filter offensive comments.
The company announced that 135,000 Instagram accounts have been deleted for posting inappropriate comments or requests, and 500,000 related accounts on Instagram and Facebook have been deactivated.
