Interior Ministry: Participation Rate in Tehran is 34%

The Ministry of Interior states that the participation rate in Tehran is 34 percent.

The Election Headquarters of Iran’s Ministry of Interior announced the participation percentage in the elections for the two councils, the Parliament and the Assembly of Experts, by province. Voting took place in 31 provinces of Iran on Friday.

Accordingly, Alborz province, with 28.4 percent, is at the bottom of the participation chart, followed by the provinces of Kurdistan, Tehran, Central, and Isfahan with 37.4 percent.

The highest participation is reported in Kohgiluyeh and Boyer-Ahmad with 64.27 percent, followed by South Khorasan, Hormozgan, North Khorasan, Golestan, and Chaharmahal and Bakhtiari with 53.5 percent.

Until a few hours ago, media and newspapers in Iran were reporting a 24 percent participation rate in Tehran, breaking the 2019 record of 26.24 percent.

Now, the participation rate in Tehran has been announced as 34 percent, which is slightly different from the previous period in 2015, which was 34.39 percent.

Meanwhile, according to the newspaper Etemad on Sunday, regardless of the participation percentage, the fact that determining the majority of Tehran’s seats has moved to the second round is unprecedented.

According to reports, in nearly half of the provinces, the elections have gone to the second round.

Both foreign and some domestic surveys predicted that participation in this election would be very low.

Analysts believe that after months of nationwide protests known as the Mahsa movement, the number of government supporters in Iran has significantly decreased.
