The International Energy Agency reports that Iran’s gas production growth has slowed down.
The International Energy Agency says that in 2024, Iran’s gas production growth was less than 2 percent, and this year it is likely to be only 1 percent.
This is while Iran had an average annual gas production growth of over 5 percent in the past decade.
Due to the lack of diversity in Iran’s energy portfolio, gas accounts for 70 percent and petroleum products for nearly 30 percent of Iran’s energy consumption, and the combined share of clean energies like solar, wind, and hydro, as well as nuclear, in Iran’s energy consumption portfolio does not even reach 1 percent.
The International Energy Agency, in its latest report published on its website, has mentioned Iran’s gas deficit even in the autumn season and stated that the Islamic Republic has been forced to halt the operations of some power plants due to fuel shortages.
This report states that the expected 1 percent growth in Iran’s gas production is also contingent upon the implementation of the gas flaring reduction program and the increase in production from phase 11 of the South Pars field.
