Internet shutdown in Iran reached 64 days, intensifying the country’s online isolation
NetBlocks, the organization monitoring internet status globally, has announced that the nationwide internet disruption in Iran has now entered its sixty-fourth day
According to this report, after 1512 hours of internet disconnection, access in Iran has reached a level close to complete isolation from international networks
This situation continues as May 3rd, World Press Freedom Day designated by the United Nations, approaches, and the internet remains blocked for the general public, including a large portion of journalists in Iran
The report states that this long-term censorship measure has created a serious obstacle for friends and families abroad to be informed about the safety and well-being of their loved ones
At the same time, reports indicate that officials of the Islamic Republic are considering providing limited and selective access to some groups and professions, a plan that some professions, including certain nurses and lawyers, have rejected
Meanwhile, it is said that some individuals close to the government have access to the internet through lines known as ‘white SIM cards’
