Iran and China's Request to the Taliban in Defense of Afghan Women

Iran and China’s Request from the Taliban to Defend Afghan Women

China and Iran, the eastern and western neighbors of Afghanistan, have asked the Taliban government to end the restrictions imposed on the work and education of Afghan women.

Beijing and Tehran made this request to the Taliban in a joint statement released on Thursday, February 16, on the last day of Ebrahim Raisi’s visit to China.

While the international community has also condemned the restrictions imposed on Afghan women, Iran and China rejected Western standards on human rights and democracy in their joint statement.

Since the Taliban regained power in Afghanistan last summer, women and girls have been banned from attending universities and high schools, and restrictions have also been imposed on women’s employment.
