Iran and Russia's Cooperation to Circumvent Sanctions

Cooperation between Iran and Russia to bypass sanctions

Bloomberg reports that Russia and Iran are constructing an intercontinental trade route with billions of dollars in new investments, stretching from the eastern edge of Europe to the Indian Ocean. This 3,000-kilometer (1,860-mile) corridor is beyond the reach of any foreign intervention.

The two countries are spending billions of dollars to accelerate cargo transit along rivers and railways connected to the Caspian Sea.

Data tracked by Bloomberg regarding ships passing through this region shows that dozens of Russian and Iranian ships, including some under sanctions, have already traveled this route.

Under intense sanction pressure, Russia and Iran are turning towards each other, while both also look towards the east.
