The Telegraph: Iran is likely to reduce uranium enrichment to 20%
The Telegraph newspaper reported on Sunday that the Islamic Republic of Iran is prepared to significantly reduce its uranium enrichment levels to prevent the re-imposition of UN sanctions.
According to the British newspaper The Telegraph, Ali Larijani, the Secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, is attempting to convince senior officials of the Islamic Republic to reduce uranium enrichment to 20%.
According to the latest report from the International Atomic Energy Agency, released before the 12-day war, the Islamic Republic has over 400 kilograms of 60% enriched uranium, the fate of which remains uncertain following U.S. and Israeli attacks on nuclear facilities in Iran.
Last week, the European Troika warned the Islamic Republic that if it does not return to the negotiation table, they will activate the snapback mechanism to reinstate UN Security Council sanctions against Tehran.
However, reports from Iran indicate that Ali Larijani, the Secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, considers the European parties as lacking legitimacy to activate the snapback mechanism and has stated that activating the snapback mechanism against Iran lacks legitimacy.
