Iran National Boxing Team Defeats Russia

The Iranian national boxing team achieved victory against Russia.

A joint training camp for the national boxing teams of Iran and Russia has been set up in Tehran. The two teams held two preparatory matches in seven Olympic weight categories, in which Iran won with scores of 61 and 52, respectively.

Iran, with its Cuban head coach, is preparing to participate in the Olympic qualification competitions hosted by Thailand. The isolation of Russian sports following the country’s military invasion of Ukraine has led to an increase in preparatory competitions in various sports between Russian and Iranian teams.

In the second match held at the Enghelab Sports Complex in Tehran, in the first weight category, Mostafa Rigi lost to Yevgeny Zurov. Danial Shahbakhsh, the only medalist in the history of Iranian boxing at the world championships, succeeded in defeating Alexey Kislev.

Ali Habibinejad defeated Alan Borsov, and Kasra Tahmasbi overcame Vesal Aliyev. For the fifth bout in the 80 kg weight category, Hossein Mirahmadi faced Gandaliyev in the ring, with the Iranian representative’s hand raised in victory. Then, Pouria Amiri managed to defeat Denis Kozlov.
