Iran released the Greek-owned oil tanker that it had seized earlier this year in the Gulf of Oman.
A knowledgeable source told Reuters that this tanker, which was sailing under the flag of the Marshall Islands, was released earlier this week after negotiations with Iranian officials, but it remains under Iran’s control.
At the time of its seizure by Iran, the ship was carrying one million barrels of Iraqi crude oil destined for Turkey.
Iranian state media had reported at the time that Iran seized the tanker in January in retaliation for the seizure of a ship and its oil by the United States last year.
