Iran remains on the FATF blacklist

On Friday, June 29th, the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) once again voted to keep the Islamic Republic of Iran on its money laundering blacklist and called on countries to take necessary actions against Iran, which has not ratified the Palermo Convention and the Convention on the Financing of Terrorism.

According to the French news agency, the Financial Action Task Force also warned about illegal activities related to the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction and their financing in North Korea, encouraging countries to take countermeasures against Pyongyang.

This organization had also announced last March that Iran would remain on the group’s money laundering blacklist.

Currently, only three countries, the Islamic Republic of Iran, North Korea, and Myanmar, are on the Financial Action Task Force’s blacklist.

Iran’s economy is becoming more critical every day due to remaining on the FATF blacklist, not accepting the group’s recommendations, and also because of sanctions.

Iran remains on the FATF blacklist

The Financial Action Task Force (FATF) announced in a statement that countries are obliged to take special measures to keep their banking systems safe from potential involvement in money laundering and terrorist financing through transactions and banking systems of countries that are on the blacklist.

The statement further mentioned that Iran will remain on the money laundering blacklist until the completion of its action plan. Based on the group’s decision, Myanmar, alongside North Korea and Iran, has been placed on the money laundering blacklist, while Pakistan and Nicaragua have been removed from the grey list.
