Iran sentenced the U.S. government to pay 420 million dollars
Branch 55 of Tehran’s International Relations Civil Court sentenced the U.S. government to pay 420 million dollars for invading Iranian soil in the Tabas desert and causing material and moral damages.
Accordingly, Branch 55 of the International Relations Civil Court, as a reciprocal action and based on the Jurisdiction of the Courts of the Islamic Republic of Iran Act enacted in 2011, ruled the defendant jointly liable to pay 140 million dollars, equivalent to 10 million dollars for each plaintiff, for the material and moral damages incurred.
Operation Eagle Claw, known in Iran as the Tabas operation, was a military operation conducted by the U.S. Army’s Delta Force on April 24, 1980, to rescue American hostages held at the U.S. Embassy in Tehran. This operation was Delta Force’s first operational experience.
