Iranian composer wins United Nations Art Award

Mehdi Rajabian, an Iranian composer, alongside two other artists, won the annual United Nations Art Award for minority artists in 2023. He, who has been arrested several times in Iran, is not allowed to leave the country, and this award was given to him in absentia.

This annual award is given to three artists in the field of various forms of discrimination. A Spanish painter and a visual artist from Nigeria are the other two winners of this award.

In a message regarding this, Mehdi Rajabian said that happiness is a collective event, and unfortunately, no one here is happy. The situation has completely changed after the recent protests. No award can be a measure to determine the artistic value of an artist, but it can certainly be a platform for the voice of human rights and the freedom of art.
