Iranian representatives left the COP 28 meeting in protest of Israel’s presence

The Iranian delegation left the 28th United Nations Climate Change Conference, known as COP 28, on Friday in protest of Israel’s presence

It had previously been announced that Ebrahim Raisi would not attend the meeting due to Israel’s presence, and Ali Akbar Mehrabian, the Minister of Energy, would lead the Iranian delegation

Nevertheless, on Friday, the second day of the conference, Iran’s Energy Minister stated that assessments showed Israeli officials would not be present at the conference and announced the return of the Iranian delegation to Tehran

He also described the presence of Israel’s President as politically irrelevant, biased, and contrary to the goals and strategies of the conference
