Iranian National Team Star Banned from Leaving the Country

Iran’s national team star banned from leaving the country

Razieh Janbaz, a member of Iran’s women’s national handball team and recognized as the first female handball player from the country to play abroad, announced early this morning that she has been banned from leaving the country. Janbaz, who was heading to Imam Airport for an overseas trip, discovered that she was banned from leaving and her passport was confiscated. Janbaz wrote about the incident, saying, ‘Being banned from leaving is strange for someone like me, who has always returned and declared my love for this land. It’s surprising that being a protestor means being a criminal.’ In recent months, Janbaz had shared criticisms about the country’s situation on her personal page. She also announced in October that, considering recent events, she would no longer play for the national team.
