Iran’s Deputy Representative to the UN: Western countries don’t need to consider themselves guardians of Iranian women
Zahra Ershadi, Iran’s Deputy Representative to the UN, criticized the role that, according to her, Western countries have assumed as guardians of women during a speech at a meeting on Women, Peace, and Security held in the Security Council on Thursday. She said:
The tragic death of Mahsa Amini, a young Iranian girl, broke the heart of not only our government but also the people of our country. We are saddened by this incident and hope never to witness such a tragic loss again. A full investigation has been conducted to determine the circumstances leading to this tragic death.
So far, the findings of the two initial investigations have been shared with member countries and UN-affiliated organizations. Iranian women are intelligent, educated, dedicated, patriotic, and aware of their rights. They also know how to engage with the government in a peaceful and constructive manner to advance their rights. Therefore, we advise Western countries that they don’t need to consider themselves as guardians or spokespersons for Iranian women.
