Iran’s Foreign Minister: Diplomacy is Iran’s Priority

Seyed Abbas Araghchi, Iran’s Foreign Minister, in an interview with CNN Turk after his trip to Turkey, said that Iran is prepared for any potential U.S. attack, but at the same time emphasized that Tehran’s priority remains diplomacy.

Referring to his meetings with Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and Hakan Fidan, he said that the relations between Iran and Turkey are strong and constructive, and the two countries consistently discuss regional issues. According to Araghchi, Erdoğan emphasized the necessity of using diplomacy for the welfare and stability of the region.

Regarding negotiations with the U.S., Iran’s Foreign Minister said that currently, there is no serious basis for dialogue, and until the atmosphere of threat and pressure is removed, real and fruitful negotiations are not possible. He added that dictated negotiations are unacceptable, and a fair agreement will only be possible with mutual respect and equal conditions.

Araghchi warned that in the event of any attack, Iran will respond decisively and very strongly, stating that the attack last June was unsuccessful and repeating it will yield the same result. He emphasized that Iran has the capability to defend itself and is prepared for all scenarios.

He also considered the European Union’s action in labeling the Revolutionary Guards as terrorists a major strategic mistake, saying this decision will lead to increased tensions. In another part of his remarks, Araghchi claimed that according to official statistics, the number of deaths in the unrest was about 3,100, and most of the victims were security forces.

In conclusion, Iran’s Foreign Minister emphasized that Tehran supports Syria’s territorial integrity, will confront any security threat, and remains hopeful that reason and dialogue will prevail over tension and conflict.
