Iran's Foreign Minister: The Trigger Mechanism is Bad and Should Be Stopped

Iran’s Foreign Minister says the snapback mechanism is a bad thing and should be stopped.

Abbas Araghchi, the Foreign Minister of the Islamic Republic, in a television program called ‘Flow,’ mentioned the possibility of the snapback mechanism being activated by the three European countries and said there is no doubt that something must be done to prevent the snapback mechanism, and we will spare no effort until the last moment.

Araghchi emphasized that no one has denied the existence of the snapback mechanism in the JCPOA and said that while the word itself is not present, the mechanism exists, and it was due to the existence of this mechanism that the Islamic Republic has utilized it.

He continued by referring to the procedure for activating the snapback mechanism, saying that the Europeans have until October 20 to snap back. However, from our perspective, due to their positions, including insisting on zero enrichment, when the JCPOA recognizes Iran’s right to enrichment, they are not qualified to discuss or employ any part of the JCPOA, including the snapback.

The Foreign Minister of the Islamic Republic, referring to the sanctions that will return with the activation of the snapback mechanism, said that activating the snapback mechanism is a bad thing and should be stopped.
