Iran's Gas Losses Have Reached 21 Billion Cubic Meters

Iran’s gas losses have reached 21 billion cubic meters

While the Minister of Petroleum of the Islamic Republic of Iran claims a reduction in gas flaring, new statistics from the World Bank and the British company BP show that Iran’s gas losses have reached 21 billion cubic meters.

Due to the lack of installation of gas collection equipment, which is extracted along with oil from oil fields, Iran burns and wastes this natural product at the production stage in flares.

World Bank statistics show that Iran’s associated gas flaring in 2023 reached a historic record of 21 billion cubic meters, which is equivalent to 40 percent of Turkey’s total gas consumption last year.

Flaring in Iran last year showed a 19 percent increase compared to 2022.
