Iran’s Communications Minister said attempts were made 20 times to sabotage the fiber optic network during the first round of elections.

Eisa Zarepour, Iran’s Communications Minister, stated that during the first round of presidential election voting held last week, over 20 attacks were made on the country’s fiber optic lines, with 9 of these resulting in fiber cuts according to him.

Mr. Zarepour said that during last week’s voting, the ministry monitored the fiber optic lines in collaboration with the armed forces.

Iran’s Communications Minister said that through this collaboration, they were able to identify points where digging for sabotage had occurred earlier.

Reports of internet disruptions during the first round of presidential election voting were published, but government officials denied that these outages were intentional.
