Iran’s Minister of Culture and Islamic Guidance: We will not revert back regarding the issue of hijab
Mohammad Mehdi Esmaeili, Iran’s Minister of Culture and Islamic Guidance, has stated that the Islamic society rose against nudity and unveiling 45 years ago.
Iranian media, quoting him at a women’s special gathering with the Holy Quran held yesterday, wrote that the authentic Iranian society, after 44 years since the victory of the Islamic Revolution, is on its path to perfection. In this path, no regression is acceptable, and no backward movement should occur because the Islamic society rose against nudity and unveiling 45 years ago, and 90 years ago, during Reza Shah’s era at Goharshad, stood by revolutionary Islamic values. Such a society will not allow a return to the era of ignorance.
Mr. Esmaeili described the Iranian revolution as a movement against unveiling, while many of the Shah’s opponents were groups that did not believe in hijab, and practically, the mandatory hijab law was enforced after the revolution through suppression and pressure. Even after more than four decades of governance, it has not been able to establish its desired hijab.
In recent days, the issue of hijab has been at the forefront of news in Iran.
