The Ministry of Roads and Urban Development of Iran states that 39 million Iranians are at risk of subsidence.
Ali Beitollahi, a faculty member of the Road and Urban Development Research Center of Iran, has said that based on the latest evaluations and the compilation of all existing maps, the approximate area of subsidence zones in the country is about 18.5 million hectares, roughly equivalent to 11% of Iran’s land area.
According to him, the population at risk of land subsidence in the country is estimated to be around 39 million people, which constitutes nearly 49% of the total population of the country.
Mr. Beitollahi has stated that the provinces of Tehran, Khorasan Razavi, and Isfahan have the highest population at risk of land subsidence, with Khorasan Razavi ranking first in terms of the extent of subsidence zones.
