Iran's Revolutionary Guard seizes Emirati oil tanker

Iran’s Revolutionary Guards seized an Emirati oil tanker

British security company Ambrey announced on Tuesday, July 22, that an oil tanker carrying petroleum products with a Togolese flag and managed by the UAE, carrying 1,500 tons of oil and gas at sea, had been seized by Iran’s Revolutionary Guards.

Ambrey’s report states that the oil and gas tanker loaded off the coast of Iraq and was en route to Sharjah, United Arab Emirates, but was seized by Iran 61 nautical miles southwest of the port of Bushehr.

The company adds that it is unlikely that this incident had political motives and is not assessed as a currency war event.

British security company Ambrey suggests that this interception was likely an anti-smuggling operation by the Revolutionary Guards as the vessel’s commercial behavior matched the previous target criteria of the Guards.
