Iran’s Run in the Volleyball Nations League Ends with a Loss to Germany

The Iranian national volleyball team lost their last match of the 2024 Nations League against Germany with a score of 3-0.

This season ended with two wins and 10 losses for Iran. Their final ranking, either 15th or 16th, depends on the outcome of Turkey’s last match against Italy.

Iran, which started the season with Brazilian Maurício Paes and ended with Peyman Akbari, had its weakest performance in the history of the Nations League. The only victories for Iran this year were in five sets against the USA and the Netherlands.

Germany’s setter Georg Grozer said, ‘I thought the game would be tougher than this. The Iranian players need to be patient; they have a lot of potential for growth and just need to learn how to utilize it.’

Moritz Karlitzek scored 21 points for Germany and was the best player on the court, while Amin Esmaeilnezhad scored 19 points.

The starting players for Iran were Morteza Sharifi, Arshia Behnejad, Alireza Masleh Abadi, Esmaeilnezhad, Pouria Khanzadeh, Mohammad Valizadeh, and Arman Salehi.
