Iran's Share of the Aras River Also Reduced

Iran’s share of the Aras River has also decreased

Investigations by the Iran Chamber’s Sustainable Development Commission regarding the impacts of the Eastern Anatolia Project (DAP) on the water resources of Northwest Iran indicate a 30% reduction in Iran’s share of the Aras River’s water resources.

The implementation and completion of the Eastern Anatolia Project, known as DAP, by Turkey in the near future may reduce Iran’s share of water resources in the Aras River basin by 25 to 30 percent.

The cutting or reduction of the Aras border river’s flow by Turkey could lead to serious problems for supplying drinking water and agriculture in downstream areas.
