The spokesperson for Iran’s water industry says the average rainfall is 31% less than last year.
Firooz Qasemzadeh, the spokesperson for Iran’s water industry, has stated regarding the country’s water resources that the average rainfall from the beginning of the current water year at the start of October to February 16th shows a 31% decrease compared to last year.
According to ISNA, based on the latest statistics announced from the beginning of the current water year to February 17th, 14 of the country’s major dams have less than 20% water.
According to this report, the volume of water in the country’s dams during this period has reached 21 billion and 260 million cubic meters, which is a 7% decrease compared to last year.
Sahar Tajbakhsh Mosalman, the head of the Meteorological Organization, also stated that this year recorded the warmest December in the past 33 years in the country.
She said that over the past half-century, the country’s temperature has increased by about 0.4 degrees per decade, and the temperature at some meteorological stations in the country, such as Parsabad in the northwesternmost region, reached around 20 degrees Celsius, which is considered a very unusual record for the country.
