Iran's Welfare Organization: There are 120,000 child laborers in the country

The Iranian Welfare Organization reports there are 120,000 child laborers in the country.

Mohammad Reza Heydarhaei, the acting head of the Social Affairs Office of the Iranian Welfare Organization, has announced the presence of 120,000 child laborers in the country.

Mr. Heydarhaei stated that in the year 1401 (2022-2023), approximately 14,500 street children were identified.

According to him, last year 14,500 street children were identified, of which about 10,500 received services from the Welfare Organization, while the rest were not interested in receiving these services.

This official from the Welfare Organization has stated that the organization opposes the collection of child laborers and street children because collecting these children does not solve their problem. The issue of child laborers and street children is a matter that needs to be addressed at its root.

He said that we are witnessing an increase in child waste-picking, and for those who work in waste-picking, it is a very attractive business. So, they prefer to use workers who receive lower wages and work longer hours for them.
