Araqchi’s Reaction to Borrell’s Remarks: Europe is a Symbol of Hypocrisy

Josep Borrell, the head of the European Union’s diplomatic service, announced on social media platform X on Tuesday, October 31st, in response to the execution of Jamshid Sharmahd, that the Union is considering measures for an appropriate response. Borrell, while expressing sympathy with Sharmahd’s family, emphasized that under EU laws, the death penalty is a violation of the right to life and an ultimate denial of human dignity in all circumstances.

Abbas Araqchi, the Foreign Minister of the Islamic Republic of Iran, reacted to Borrell’s message on social media platform X, writing, ‘When you talk about supporting the right to life and human dignity, I want to believe you, but the problem is that you Europeans shamelessly support the genocide in Gaza and the killings in Lebanon.’

Continuing with a hint at European measures, Araqchi reiterated the judiciary’s claim that Jamshid Sharmahd was involved in terrorist operations in Iran and said, ‘How about considering European measures to support the families of Jamshid Sharmahd’s victims?’
