IRIB in response to criticisms should have received more budget

The national broadcaster, in response to criticisms, should have been allocated more budget.

In response to widespread criticism over the tripling of its budget by the Islamic Consultative Assembly for the next year, the national broadcaster announced that this increase is not enough and, according to the seventh plan, more budget should have been allocated to it.

The state-run radio and television of Iran, whose head is appointed by the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Republic, claimed in a statement released on Monday, January 29, that according to Article 77 of the seventh plan, the government’s share in providing the necessary funds for the broadcaster in the year 2024 should increase by 43% beyond the annual growth to enable the fulfillment of new obligations stated in the plan.

The statement adds that this amount in the budget for the next year is a maximum of 31%, which is still less than the mandate of the plan.

The Islamic Republic’s broadcaster has claimed that the realization of its programs requires a budget larger than the share considered in next year’s budget.

In reviewing the 2024 budget bill, the Islamic Consultative Assembly approved an allocation of 24 trillion tomans to the national broadcaster, which is three times the budget of this organization for the current year.
