Israel and Spain’s Security Agreement Against Iran’s Nuclear Program

Eli Cohen, Israel’s Foreign Minister, met with his Spanish counterpart, José Manuel Albares, in Madrid on Thursday, April 27, during a one-day visit to Spain. This was the first diplomatic visit by an Israeli foreign minister to Spain in over a decade.

According to i24NEWS, the foreign ministers of the two countries agreed on the framework for a $330 million security agreement and a united front against the Iranian government’s nuclear program.

Cohen’s visit to Spain is particularly significant as the country is soon to take over the rotating presidency of the European Union. According to the report, the Israeli foreign minister’s visit to Spain is part of the country’s efforts to form a multilateral coalition with European countries against the Iranian government’s nuclear program.

Cohen said, ‘I thank the Spanish Foreign Minister for his firm stance and support in the fight to prevent Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons.’
