Israel Claims Islamic Republic Hackers Responsible for Cyber Attack on Haifa University

Israel claims that hackers from the Islamic Republic were responsible for the cyber attack on the University of Haifa.

On Tuesday, March 7, Israel’s National Cyber Security Organization accused hackers from the Islamic Republic’s Ministry of Intelligence of being responsible for the ransomware cyber attack in February on the Haifa Institute of Technology.

The report adds that a group known as MuddyWater was behind the February hacking attack on the Haifa Institute of Technology, known as Technion.

Previously, the United States and the United Kingdom had also identified this hacking group as being affiliated with the Islamic Republic, a point that Israel’s National Cyber Security Organization also noted, stating, like the security agencies of the United States and the United Kingdom, that this group has so far been responsible for cyber attacks on various institutions from Asia and Africa to North America.

The report stated that the mentioned group, linked to the Islamic Republic’s Ministry of Intelligence, used ransomware and data encryption systems to demand ransom from Technion University.
