Israel sues The New York Times

The Israeli Prime Minister’s office announced that the country will take legal action against The New York Times for publishing an article about allegations of sexual abuse of Palestinians in Israeli prisons.

The article by Nicholas Kristof, titled ‘The Silence That Faces the Rape of Palestinians,’ was published in The New York Times on May 11.

Benjamin Netanyahu’s office described this report as one of the ugliest and most distorted lies against the Israeli government and stated that the Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of Israel have ordered the initiation of a libel lawsuit.

The New York Times, defending its report, stated that the accounts of the 14 men and women mentioned in the article have been verified and cross-checked with other testimonies.
