Israel talks about the Iranians and America about the Palestinians
Isaac Herzog, the President of Israel, who has begun his official visit to Washington, naturally focuses more than anything on behind-the-scenes coordination with the Biden administration regarding the Israeli elections and the subsequent developments. This key issue is the main concern of Biden’s foreign policy team this week.
However, the bilateral conversation between the Israeli President and the U.S. Secretary of State took on interesting dimensions. While Antony Blinken centered the discussion on tensions in the occupied territories and the killing of Palestinians, Herzog dedicated a specific part of the talks to the issue of Iran’s military presence in Ukraine and the victimization of Ukrainian civilians by Iranian drone attacks.
The interesting point in these discussions and the overall remarks of the Israeli President is his claim of having a special plan during this trip to present evidence about drone attacks in Ukraine. It is surprising that he has officially announced his intention to convince the U.S. about this, even though the U.S. had already confirmed and reported on Iran’s military presence in Ukraine in detail.
