Israel’s Embassy Objects to Ahmadinejad’s Presence at a Hungarian State University
Jewish organizations and the Israeli Embassy have objected to a Hungarian state university’s invitation to Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, the former president of Iran.
The University of Public Service Ludovika in Budapest, the capital of Hungary, has invited Ahmadinejad to participate in an academic conference being held this week.
Two Hungarian Jewish communities, along with a Jewish advocacy group, released a joint statement on Wednesday, May 9, labeling Mahmoud Ahmadinejad as anti-Semitic and objecting to his presence in Hungary.
Iranian media had previously reported that the controversial former president of Iran traveled to Hungary on Monday to speak at a conference on the environment, taking place from May 7 to May 11.
Major Jewish organizations in Hungary condemned the Ludovika University’s invitation and demanded an explanation and apology from its officials to the country’s Jewish community.
