Issuance of a Judicial Arrest Warrant for an American Ship
One day after the news about the unsuccessful attempt by the Islamic Republic to seize two tankers, Iran’s official news agency reported the issuance of an arrest warrant for one of them.
On Thursday, July 6, the IRNA news agency claimed that a judicial arrest warrant was issued for the Richmond Voyager tanker due to a collision with an Iranian vessel.
However, the claim of a collision involving the American tanker owned by Chevron and the warning from the naval ship comes despite the fact that the Islamic Republic had previously dismissed the U.S. Fifth Fleet’s report about the failed attempt to seize two tankers.
Continuing with its claim, the state news agency IRNA quoted the country’s Ports and Maritime Organization, stating that the Richmond Voyager tanker, flying the Bahamian flag, after colliding with the Iranian vessel, ignored international maritime laws and regulations, as well as warnings and alerts from the naval ship, changed its course, entered Omani waters, and fled.
