Italy Charges Tourists for Entering Venice

Italy charges tourists a fee to enter Venice

In an unprecedented pilot scheme, Italian officials are charging tourists a daily fee to enter the historic city of Venice in order to control the number of visitors during peak tourism times.

Venice officials announced in a press conference on Thursday, November 23, that this action is aimed at managing the influx of tourists during the spring holidays and some summer weekends when the number of visitors reaches its peak.

The entry restriction to Venice is set to be enforced from 8:30 AM to 4:00 PM local time, initially planned for a total of 29 days.

Most of these days include weekends and cover the period from April 25 to mid-July of the following year.

Travelers must pay the entry fee to the city, which is five euros, online and will be given a barcode to present at the city’s entry points.
