Jamileh Kadivar on Sexual Assault of Female Prisoners: This Requires Serious and Immediate Judicial Review

Jamileh Kadivar on sexual assault against female prisoners: This requires serious and immediate investigation by the judiciary.

In a note on her Telegram channel, Jamileh Kadivar wrote about Narges Mohammadi’s letter regarding sexual assault and harassment of female prisoners, stating that this issue requires serious and prompt investigation by the country’s judiciary.

Ms. Kadivar wrote that Narges Mohammadi, in her letter, mentioned the ineffectiveness of the prisoners’ legal complaints to Heshmatollah Hayat Al-Ghaib, the head of Tehran’s prison organization, Kazem Gharibabadi, the judiciary’s human rights official, and Zohreh Elhian, a member of parliament, and stated that despite reporting these incidents to the relevant authorities, no follow-up action has been taken by them.

She recommended that besides the judiciary, other bodies like the Article 90 Commission should thoroughly investigate this issue, and it would be good for the national broadcaster to address the doubts surrounding the allegations by interviewing the women and girls imprisoned during the recent protests to verify the claims made.
