Javad Nekounam resigned, but Foolad Club did not accept it.

Yesterday, after Foolad Khuzestan football team reached the quarter-finals of the AFC Champions League by winning against the representative of Saudi Arabia, Javad Nekounam announced his resignation in a press conference after the match.

He stated in the press conference that this was his last game with Foolad Khuzestan and he will no longer be on the bench for Foolad.

Mr. Nekounam cited the difficult conditions that have been created for him and his team as the reason for this decision.

However, Foolad Club announced today that Nekounam is participating in Foolad’s training today and they do not agree with his resignation.

Foolad is the only representative of Iran in this season’s AFC Champions League.

Iranian teams have been unable to become champions in the most prestigious club competitions in Asia for years, although Persepolis reached the final of this competition twice in the past years.
