John Kirby on Iran's Nuclear Issue: Our Preference is Diplomacy

John Kirby: Our preference in the Iran nuclear issue is diplomacy

A senior U.S. National Security Council official stated that while Iran’s centrifuges are spinning, the U.S. is trying to prevent Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons through diplomatic means.

John Kirby, the Strategic Communications Coordinator at the U.S. National Security Council, said that the United States is inclined to pursue negotiations to resolve the disputes concerning Iran’s nuclear issue.

Kirby, on the sidelines of the NATO summit in Washington, said, ‘We know that Iran’s centrifuges are spinning. President Joe Biden has clearly stated that we will not allow Iran to acquire nuclear weapons. It is clear that we prefer to achieve this goal through diplomacy.’
